As the joyous season of Christmas  draws near, we are thrilled to invite you and your family to our Christmas Family Fun Day ! Organized by our Parent Advisory Group (PAG), this event is a wonderful opportunity for us to gather as a school community, celebrate the true meaning of Christmas—the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ—and create beautiful memories together. Our event this year is themed "Light of the World,"  taken from John 8:12 : "I am the light of the world. This year, our fundraising efforts will continue to support Yayasan Rumah Gembira , an educational foundation in Sulawesi dedicated to educating children living in unreached areas. Our volunteer parents work closely with them, visiting their villages to spend time with the kids and support their mission. THIS YEAR, our goal is to provide proper learning tools and digital equipment  such as laptops  for the students, many of whom are now pursuing formal education in SMP and SMA. As education becomes increasingly digital, and after close discussion with Pak Yonathan, we believe it is vital to help equip these young learners to thrive in the modern world. LAST YEAR , thanks to your incredible support at our Lunar New Year Family Fun Day, we were able to fund the construction of their boys' dormitory , following the completion of the girls' dormitory the year before that. On our latest parent seminar last Thursday, we had approximately 50 parents attend the Calling and College Readiness seminar, followed by 33 Korean parents joining the Faith & Family Journey to S.K.Y. Universities in Korea. Mr. Jason shared passionately about the importance of considering Christian colleges when families are deciding on the college pathway. He highlighted how many secular professors are intentionally trying to destroy our children's faith, so it is crucial for our children to have a strong Christian worldview as they embark on their academic and career journey. Dr. Abraham then described the KV counseling ministries, which include helping our students pave a Christ-centered college and career pathway. He went on to explain the academic and extracurricular activity expectations that universities around the world have, including those in the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, and Asia. He highlighted the importance of building both a wide variety of experiences as well as a significant “spike” activity within the student’s extracurricular profile. He also shared examples of excellent résumés and key elements of the KV counseling program. Afterwards, three Korean alumni moms, Ms. Soyoung Lee, Ms. Eunjeong Choi, and Ms. Hyekyung Oh, together with a wonderful moderator, Ms. Sieun Park shared about the important role of mothers in helping their children be ready in both faith and academics as they make their way to prestigious universities in Korea. Overall, today’s seminars reminded us that college preparation is not only about grades and activities, but also about nurturing faith, discerning God’s calling, and walking alongside our children with prayer, wisdom, and ongoing support. Spread the Joy This Christmas Season! ✨🎄 (by Neighbours MSL Group) Hello, Students and Parents! As the holiday season is right around the corner, Neighbors MSL is bringing back Joy in a Box, our annual Christmas event where you can sign up to gift presents to Indonesian children battling cancer. Neighbors MSL is a group of high school students from SPHKV that partners with Yayasan Kanker Anak Indonesia (YKAI) to support children in Indonesia battling cancer. Every Christmas since 2020, we have delivered these gifts to the children to spread holiday joy, and we would be honored if you would like to join us by participating in this event! There is a minimum budget of 250k per gift, and all gifts must be dropped off at the SPHKV lobby by December 6th. As we wrap up Dyslexia Awareness Month , we want to share some practical ways families can support children with dyslexia at home and partner with us at school. At school, we provide tools such as audiobooks, speech-to-text technology, targeted phonics instruction, and choice-based assessments so students can demonstrate learning in multiple ways. At home, parents can: Read aloud together to model fluency and make reading enjoyable Encourage audiobooks and podcasts as another pathway to stories and information Celebrate effort , not just accuracy, to build confidence Highlight your child’s strengths , whether in art, science, sports, or problem-solving Most importantly, if you have concerns about your child’s reading, reach out. Early identification and support can make a lasting difference. Dear G8 and G10 Parents, I hope this memo finds you well. I am writing to inform you that your child will be taking two assessments (Personality and Intelligence) this week if he or she is in Grade 10 (on Oct. 27), and one Personality assessment next Tuesday (on Nov. 4) if in Grade 8. These are well-established tools that help parents and students engage in meaningful conversations about potential college majors and future subject selections. After your child completes the assessment(s), a 25-page report will be generated, including career and college pathway recommendations. Your child will share this report with you. If they do not, please gently remind them to show you the results. Should you have any questions regarding the results, please make an appointment to see me with your child ( Abraham.chung@sph.ac.id ). I will be happy to go over the results. For your information, I will also be available on November 6 to answer any assessment or IGCSE/IB subject selection related questions. Children with dyslexia may: Excel in oral communication and storytelling Have strong visual-spatial reasoning See patterns and connections others might miss Show strengths in subjects like art, design, science, or entrepreneurship Many influential figures have dyslexia and credit it with shaping their creativity and resilience, including Albert Einstein (scientist), Steven Spielberg (director), Agatha Christie (author), Richard Branson (entrepreneur), and Whoopi Goldberg (actress).
