Dear Parents and Guardians, I hope this message finds you well. I am excited to introduce you to an important upcoming academic initiative – the Cambridge Progression Testing. This program is designed to evaluate the proficiency of our students in Grades 3- 8 in English, Science, and Math, providing valuable insights into their academic progress and areas for improvement. The testing period is scheduled from May 13th through June 7th, with the assurance that there will be no more than two tests per week. This scheduling is intentional, aimed at affording students adequate time to prepare without the undue pressure of overlapping assessments. The significance of these tests extends beyond mere academic evaluation. Our goal is to instill in students the discipline of methodical study and review in the weeks leading up to each test. This approach not only enhances learning outcomes but also mitigates the stress associated with last-minute cramming. To achieve this, we are seeking a partnership with you, the parents, to cultivate a conducive home learning environment. This may involve making deliberate adjustments, such as limiting other activities and events for certain periods, to prioritize study and review time. We understand that this requires commitment and adjustments from both our students and their families. However, we firmly believe that these efforts will greatly benefit our students' learning experiences. By working together, we can support them in developing effective study habits that will serve them well beyond their current academic pursuits. We look forward to collaborating with you in fostering an environment that enables our students to excel in their studies and approach all their learning with confidence. We are thrilled to announce that our SMA Basketball girls have won the 2023-2024 JAAC Championship! This exciting victory took place last Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, marking the end of the SMA Basketball season. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the entire school community for their unwavering support and enthusiastic cheering throughout the season. Your presence and encouragement truly made a difference for our team. It is a tremendous joy to come together as one school family in Christ and celebrate each other's achievements. We are incredibly proud of all of SMP and SMA sports team for their dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship. Get ready, because next season is badminton season! Executive functioning skills are essential cognitive processes that enable individuals to plan, organize, manage time, pay attention, and regulate emotions. These skills play an important role in academic success, social interactions, and daily life tasks. We understand that God has uniquely gifted everyone with talents and abilities, and our educators are responsible for nurturing and developing these gifts. Fortunately, parents can help their children develop these skills through fun and engaging games at home. Here are some tips and examples of age-appropriate games to promote executive functioning skills: Preschool (Ages 3-5): At this age, children are quickly absorbing knowledge and experiences as they explore the world around them. At this stage, we recognize the importance of teaching children to listen and obey (Colossians 3:20). Simon Says: This game helps preschoolers practice listening skills and following instructions. Parents can take turns being "Simon" and give simple directions such as "Simon says touch your nose" or "Simon says jump." Children learn to pay attention and inhibit impulsive responses. Red Light, Green Light: In this game, children learn to regulate their impulses and control their movements. Parents can call "green light" to signal children to move and "red light" to stop. This game encourages self-control and attentional focus. Traditional games such as "Korean Gonggi" or "Indonesian "Gasing" can help preschoolers develop fine motor skills, focus, and attention. Playing these games also teaches patience, perseverance, and turn-taking, instilling valuable virtues of self-control and respect for others. Elementary School (Ages 6-11): As children grow older, they begin to understand the concepts of responsibility and accountability. We are called to be responsible with our time and resources, using them wisely for God's glory (Ephesians 5:15-17). Memory Match: Playing memory card games helps children improve their working memory and attention skills. Parents can use decks of cards with matching pictures or words and take turns flipping them over to find matches. This game strengthens memory retention and cognitive flexibility. Scavenger Hunt: Creating a scavenger hunt with clues and tasks encourages children to plan, organize, and problem-solve. Parents can hide objects around the house or backyard and provide written or verbal clues for children to follow. This activity fosters planning, organization, and task initiation. In Korea, "Yutnori" is a traditional board game that teaches strategic thinking and planning. Similarly, in Indonesia, "Congklak" encourages critical thinking and problem-solving. These games provide opportunities for children to learn to make wise decisions and set goals. Middle School (Ages 12-14): Children struggle with increased independence and autonomy during the tween years. From a Christian worldview, we emphasize the importance of seeking God's guidance and wisdom in all areas of life, including decision-making and time management (Proverbs 3:5-6). Strategy Board Games: Chess, Scrabble, or Settlers of Catan require strategic thinking, planning, and decision-making. Playing these games with family members or friends enhances problem-solving skills, cognitive flexibility, and impulse control. Codenames: A popular word association game where players work in teams to uncover secret agents' code names. It promotes teamwork and strategy. Games: "Janggi" (Korean chess) challenges middle schoolers to think strategically and anticipate their opponent's moves. Meanwhile, "Ular Tangga" (Snakes and Ladders) promotes planning and strategy. These games teach perseverance and resilience, reminding children to trust in God's plan and timing. High School (Ages 15-18): As teenagers transition into young adulthood, they face increasing academic and social pressures. From a biblical perspective, we encourage them to seek God's will and purpose for their lives, trusting in His faithfulness and provision (James 1:5). Board Games: Board games like Trivia Pursuit is a knowledge-based board game where players answer questions in various categories to advance on the game board. It tests general knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Risk is a classic board game of global domination where players deploy armies, conquer territories, and engage in strategic battles to achieve world domination. It fosters strategic planning, diplomacy, and negotiation skills. Charades: Charades is a guessing game where players act out words or phrases without speaking while their teammates try to guess the correct answer. It encourages creativity, communication, and social interaction. Games: "Baduk" (Go) in Korea and "Monopoli" in Indonesia are games that require strategic thinking and perseverance. Playing these games fosters resilience and adaptability, preparing teens to overcome challenges with grace and determination. Incorporating these games and activities into family routines can provide enjoyable opportunities for children and teens to develop crucial executive functioning skills while spending quality time with loved ones. In fostering these skills at home, parents play a vital role in preparing their children for the next stages while grounding them in a strong foundation of faith and character. Families can empower their children to navigate life's challenges with confidence and grace by instilling values of diligence, wisdom, and trust in God. What is SEL? Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success. SEL offers educational experiences and exercises that assist children in comprehending and regulating their emotions, nurturing empathy for others, establishing and achieving objectives, making wise choices, and sustaining wholesome relationships. Why SEL is Important for Children? Social-emotional learning has several significant benefits for children. It helps them develop a more positive attitude towards themselves and others - fostering healthier relationships. These SEL skills are not limited to childhood but are carried into adulthood, enabling individuals to effectively navigate challenges in their personal and professional lives. SEL has been proven to improve academic performance, as it equips children with problem-solving abilities, emotional resilience, and the ability to resist peer pressure. The 5 Core of SEL Competencies 1. Self – Awareness 2. Self – Management 3. Social Awareness 4. Relationship Skill 5. We are delighted to share an exciting news from one of our Grade 11 students, Nadine Tan, for her exceptional achievements at the Future Intelligence Students Olympiad (FISO) 2024 online competition! Nadine has demonstrated her outstanding proficiency in both Biology and Chemistry, earning well-deserved recognition on a global stage. The Future Intelligence Students Olympiad (FISO) stands as a prestigious forum that celebrates and fosters academic excellence across a spectrum of disciplines, including English, Mathematics, Science, and the Arts. It provides students with an invaluable opportunity to showcase their talents, compete internationally, and cultivate a passion for learning. Outshining competitors from 25 countries and over 3,500 students, Nadine's achievements at FISO are truly commendable. She clinched a Bronze Medal in the Chemistry Olympiad, showcasing her strong command of the subject. Furthermore, her exceptional performance in the Biology Olympiad earned her a Gold Medal, reflecting her profound understanding and mastery of biological concepts. We are excited to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Elaine, Justin, and Hojeong, our dedicated Grade 10 students, who have recently triumphed in two prestigious online mathematics competitions. On October 28, 2023, Elaine and Justin participated in the Eduversal Mathematics Competition (EMC), a national competition designed to showcase the engaging and enjoyable aspects of mathematics. Justin secured a gold medal, while Elaine earned a commendable bronze medal. This competition serves as a testament to their dedication and perseverance in honing their mathematical skills. Furthering their journey, our students participated in the International Math Challenge (IMC) competition held on November 17, 2023. This international competition fosters a love for learning and challenges students to excel in both mathematics and critical thinking. Recognizing the challenges posed by the pandemic, the IMC adopted an online format to maintain student motivation and engagement. In IMC 2023, Justin and Hojeong displayed exceptional talent, each securing a well-deserved gold medal. Elaine, showcasing remarkable progress, achieved a silver medal, highlighting her commitment to continuous improvement. Their success is a direct result of their diligent efforts, as evidenced by their consistent practice with past competition papers. The dedication and perseverance of these students are truly commendable. Their commitment to practice and keep on learning played a significant role in their success. We are incredibly proud of Elaine, Justin, and Hojeong for their remarkable achievements, which not only reflect their talents but also exemplify the dedication and commitment fostered within our school community. Last Friday, we hosted a mini pep rally before our SMA basketball teams played their final regular season games. The goal of the event was to celebrate our student-athletes and build community in our school. KV sports programs bring the students, parents, and staff together, and we are thankful for the enthusiasm our community demonstrates through their support for our sports team and the student-athletes! Join us to cheer for our SMA Basketball Girls Team for the JAAC playoffs this Saturday. KV plays LV at 8 AM in a semi-final. 3rd place game will be at 11 and final at 12:30

This past Saturday, SPH Kemang Village gym buzzed with excitement as Parents, Teachers, staff, and even students came together for a fun sports day! Organized by the PAG, the event aimed to strengthen the bonds within our community through friendly competition and engaging games. Parents and teachers teamed up for basketball and volleyball matches, while our incredible student volunteers served as referees and scorekeepers. It was a day filled with laughter, teamwork, and a strong sense of community spirit. We're grateful for everyone who participated and made this event a success!
