The Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity defines dyslexia as an “unexpected difficulty in reading” in children and adults who have the intelligence to be much stronger readers. Dyslexia primarily stems from challenges with phonological processing—the ability to connect sounds with written letters and words.

This can make decoding new words, spelling, and reading fluency difficult. Students with dyslexia may also struggle with memory for names, dates, or sequences.

It’s important to know:

  • Dyslexia is not related to effort or motivation.

  • Dyslexia is not tied to intelligence—many students with dyslexia are highly capable and creative thinkers.

  • With the right support, children with dyslexia can and do become confident readers and learners.

Our school uses structured phonics instruction, audiobooks, and technology tools to help students access learning.

In support of this awareness, the Student Support Services Team also prepared informative Dyslexia Awareness Boards for you to visit. When you are next in the school building, please take a moment to stop by and learn more about dyslexia, including facts, strategies, and resources for supporting children.

You can find the Dyslexia Awareness Boards on the 1st and 4th Floor.

At SPH Kemang Village, we believe every child is made uniquely and wonderfully by God. Just as each student has their own unique gifts, they also have a unique way of learning. We are committed to understanding these differences and providing a supportive environment so every student can flourish in their learning journey.
