The Importance of Rest for Mental Health

As we step into the second term of the school year, it's crucial to remember that although the term break has come to an end, our need for rest continues. How often have you heard a response or responded to the question of "How are you?" with "I'm tired"? It's easily become one of the most common situations we're struggling with. When we're tired, we are unable to do our work efficiently, and it leads us to not having the most effective communication with other people.
Rest isn't limited to physical relaxation. While getting a good night's sleep is essential, there are multiple types of rest that deserve our attention. These include:
Social rest: Which involves spending quality time with loved ones
Emotional rest: Where we release our worries and burdens
Creative or gadget rest: Stepping away from the constant demands of screens and overstimulation coming from devices.
Spiritual rest: Where we find rest in God's presence, in prayer, knowing that we are fully loved and accepted. Rest allows us to be more loving and patient with others, as it refills our emotional reserves.
